ChatGPT Will Integrate with Siri, iOS 18, and Others

Apple announced a major upgrade to Siri at its Worldwide Developer Conference. They’re partnering with OpenAI to bring the powerful AI behind ChatGPT to Siri.

This will allow Siri to answer questions, complete tasks, and provide writing support in a more comprehensive and informative way. Users will have free access to basic features, with paid tiers offering additional functionalities.

Apple emphasizes user privacy, so Siri will ask permission before sharing any information with ChatGPT. And unlike most AI systems, there will be no stored history of interactions.

This partnership doesn’t signal Apple abandoning its own AI efforts. Apple Intelligence, their on-device AI solution, will still be available for many tasks. It might be limited to newer devices like iPhone 15 Pro, MacBook Pro, and iPad due to the demanding nature of AI operations.

Apple’s approach is unique. They’re treating ChatGPT as a plug-in, meaning other AI models can be integrated in the future. This allows them to easily swap in better-performing models as technology advances. Additionally, Apple Intelligence could potentially develop to a point where it surpasses third-party solutions altogether.
